If one isforced to assign a category to Steve Bailey, I suppose one would have to call him a Jazz bassist. While he is that, and a very skilled practitioner of that styel, Bailey can cover a lot more stylistic territory than that label would suggest.

Having said that, Bailey has played with many of the leading jazz and jazz fusion artists as well as country, rock, and R&B artists and bands.
