Taylor Swift was born in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania and began writing songs at a very early 10 years of age. Karaoke contests gave provided her with her first taste of performing music live, although she had previously been involved in a live comedy skit team.

Although her first trip to Nashville at age 11 to shop herself as a singer did not garner her the type of interest she had hoped for, she learned to play guitar, continued to write and made more trips back to Music City until, at age 14, her family moved to the outskirts of Nashville.

Her debut single "Tim McGraw" from her self-named debut album went to #6 on the country charts, and the album sold nearly 40,000 copies in its first week.
