Davis was an American gospel/blues singer and guitarist who also played the harmonica and the banjo. He was another of the early fingerstyle guiatarists who influenced generations of great players after him. Notable guitarists who cite him as an influence are Woody Mann, Stefan Grossman, Keb' Mo' and even Jackson Browne.
